About the production grant

Eko and Virgin Produced are partnering to search for emotionally compelling and innovative ideas. At least one submission will be awarded a $20,000 cash grant to fund the first two episodes of an interactive series. This production grant offers a rare chance for filmmakers, writers, game designers, developers or anyone with a vision for a story that can only be told in a “non-linear” and interactive fashion. These stories can be built on Interlude’s groundbreaking platform, eko studio, and selected projects will be co-distributed on eko’s and Virgin Produced’s multiple networks.

About Virgin Produced

Virgin Produced is the entertainment arm of Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Group. Launched in 2010, Virgin’s film credits include ‘Bad Moms,’ ‘Limitless’, 'Immortals,' and That Awkward Moment.’ Virgin Produced also has television projects set up at studios and networks, and additionally created the award-winning Virgin America Safety Video. In April 2012, Virgin Produced also launched its own digital network of Virgin Produced channels currently available onboard Virgin airlines and hotels.

What’s our goal?

We are looking for serialized content that pushes the boundaries of storytelling.

Format: Each episode should be approximately 5 minutes in length.

Theme: In addition to serialization, we’re looking for one more, very important thing: inherent interactivity. The interactive mechanic - the choices, the structure, the user experience - must be a driving force to the story. The concept has to demand to be interactive for it to work. A simple test for strong interactivity is to ask whether choices - every single click - enhance the viewer’s experience. People need to feel like their choices make a difference.

Tone & Genre: The tone should be reflective of both Virgin Produced and eko. Our shared DNA is rooted in elevated, innovative, and inspirational content. We’re smart, cheeky, and witty, without being pretentious. We’re provocative and bold, without being alienating or offensive. We want to flip an idea on its head and showcase it from an unconventional lens. We’re looking at scripted and unscripted series, and we’re open to genres across the board but they need to be tonally on-brand.

Who’s the target audience?

People who understand and appreciate innovative entertainment. People who are eager to create a new kind of storytelling. Individuals who don’t want to passively watch but want to actively shape their stories.

Indie-lectuals:25-35 year-olds who are interested in our content because they're smart, quirky, and intrigued by a new medium for storytelling. They are early adopters of technology and new trends, and their interests range from the New Yorker to Kanye West, from Sundance to “Girls” or “Transparent,” from “Chef’s Table” to sustainable eco-villages in Panama.

Pop-culture addicts:20-35 year-olds who have an affinity for gaming, comics, sci-fi, horror, manga... a multitude of genres in pop culture. They are active on social media and what they love about our projects is the ability to control narrative and characters: to make a story their own.
